Let’s be honest, keeping up with the latest trends was only prioritised for influencers in 2020 – most of us were just thinking about how to cope with working from home or disinfecting things. In 2021, we will be continuing to prioritise the comfort and functionality of our home whilst we are still spending more time here. So, with this in consideration, which interior trends will we be leaving behind when we revamp our apartments north wales?
Bye-bye open-concept layouts
Daily life in 2021 just does not support large rooms being spread out for a single function. Whilst an open-concept layout was once the most stylish thing anyone could think of, we’ll now be seeing a lot more separation within rooms.
Think rug areas, room dividers, and furniture breaking up sections of a room. The extra space in the living room is now an office too – and don’t get your brain confused about work and play by sitting in the same spot.
No more sterile spaces
Fast-furniture and mid-century modern styles might also be forgotten to 2021. This type of standardised design isn’t as homely as we now want. We want our personality to be spread across the room!
2021 is a time to break home design moulds. Excessive coordination will be removed, and replaced with more mix and match colourings. We have never been more grateful for the roofs over our head, so we want to be having fun with our space and create something which is unapologetically ourselves.
Cover up that mirrored furniture.
Mirrors used to just be something you hang up to see your reflection, but over the years, this surface seems to have taken over everywhere! Coffee tables, dressers, boxes, seats – but this mirrored furniture will be a thing of the past. Softer, more comfortable furnishings made from rattan or wicker are now being preferred.
But don’t just throw them out and create waste! Get creative. Cover the coffee table in a textured linen cloth, or buy some glass paint to de-glamourise it.
Soften out angular shapes and furniture
The clean look angular furniture gives to a room can be appealing – but too much of this can make a room seem one-dimensional. Balance out these straight lines by adding in some extra curve. Draping a chunky knick throw over your angular armchair might help, or switch out the rectangle rug for a shaggy oval-shaped rug.
Open storage isn’t in
There’s a good chance you’ve collected quite a lot of things over the last year. Open shelves might have been a main choice in the past, but this doesn’t work with clutter.
2020 might have made you realise how unorganised your home is – at least closed storage can help you hide these things away, and keep your mind a little clearer.
